Twizzle

Dubois Cup in Sardinia 4 - 6 June 2011

S/Y Twizzle is in Porto Cervo for the Dubois Cup, racing against 8 other Dubois designed yachts in 3 days of fun filled racing and celebration.

 Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta

The Dubois Cup will be followed immediately by the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta which will also be held in Porto Cervo in Sardinia.

St Barths Bucket Regatta – March 2011

S/Y Twizzle took part in the 25th Anniversary St Barths Bucket Race in late March, competing against 40 of the best sailing yachts in the world. Team Twizzle, fresh from competing and training in the BVIs, had a terrific time and really honed its racing skills, hoisting its A3 and A4 Spinekars and its Mizzen Staysail in the downwind legs.

Under the guidance of Race Master Robbie Hainesn Navigator Mark Chisell and Twizzle Captain and Helmsman Gordon Percy the Team Twizzle race crew did a fantastic job. Many thanks to all those who took part including: First Officer Richard Forward, Deck Leader Yerin Hobson, Bill Pearson and Scott Zebnie of North Sails, Freddie Nylof, Jakob Gustavson, Jan Wallander, Kennith Nylander, Martin Carter, Paul Larkin, Piet van Os, Jean-Marie Dumas, Richard Fryer, Tom Lihan, Wally Henry, Ian McKracken, Steve Avely and the standing S/Y Twizzle crew. Many thanks to Ed Dubois and Malcolm McKeon of Dubois Naval Architects, Michael Koppstein of Royal Huisman and everyone else who helped on board Twizzle.

Whilst winds were a little stronger than in the BVI, Twizzle suffered from an even more disadvantageous handicapping, and had to start 40th out of 40 boats and some 2 hours behind the the first yachts to start. Notwithstanding, Twizzle won all three races in her Grand Dame Class on elapsed time (but not corrected obviously) having caught up some 55 minutes in races that took less than 3 hours to sail and even beat most of the Gazelles in elapsed time. The Team Twizzle race crew are now looking forward to competing in the Dubois Cup and the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta in Sardinia in early June 2011.

St Barths Race – 31 Dec 2010

S/Y Twizzle took part in its first ever competition, the annual St Barths Round-the-Island Race, on the 31st December 2010 under the guidance of Race Master Robbie Haines, S/Y Twizzle Captains Gordon Percy and Jon Spiller and the Team Twizzle crew and came 2nd, losing by just 3 minutes to a superb sail by Ghost, the Vitters all carbon sloop. A fleet of 18 sail boats of all sizes set off in a pursuit start based on guesstimate handicaps, the smallest sailboats starting at 10:00 am and S/Y Twizzle being the last to start 2 hours later, 10 minutes after Ghost and 20 minutes after P2, the Philipe Briand designed Perini Navi.

With winds gusting over 25 knots, it was a mad dash around the island with no opportunities to fly an MPS and a heavily reefed mizzen sail. Unfortunately, the seperation between starts made it impossible to have a fleet finish and very little chance for any exciting duals. But Ghost, Twizzle and P2 really took advantage of the winds and had an exhilerating race.

Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta – June 2010

Team Twizzle raced on Dark Shadow, the 100 foot Wally, in the Loro Piana/Boat International Superyacht Regatta held in Sardinia in June 2010.

Under the guidance of Race Master Robbie Haines, S/Y Twizzle Captain Gordon Percy, First Officer Richard Forward, Chief Engineer Val Zahov and the Dark Shadow race team, a thrilling time was had by everyone aboard. Team Twizzle looks forward to competing next year on S/Y Twizzle.

S/Y Twizzle will be racing in the Showboats Rendezvous in the BVI and in the St Barths Bucket race, both in March 2011.
